J. Cole Opens Up About Vision of ‘Off-Season’ Tour

J. Cole recently made a stop in L.A. for his “Off-Season” Tour and dropped a few gems that was not inside any of his songs he performed. According to Billboard.com, the North Carolina rapper took time between songs to open about the things he went through in his career and where he stands musically. One thing that was noted, was what he envisioned on how this tour would be carried out.

“I had a vision for this tour,” said. “I wanted to be able to come out in these big a– f—ing arenas … and step on these big a– stages and be able to deliver these real mother f—ing bars to y’all, you know what I mean? Give the bars to the people, you feel me?”

Cole went on to elaborate that it was really about the lyricism. Even though he appreciates the commercially successful songs, he wanted to be known that he is very much all about letting his talent shine through his pen for the people’s delight.

“We got the hits, we grateful for that,” he humbly boasted “If there’s one thing I love about doing these shows in LA, it’s a lot of people that have been f—ing with me since day one in LA. I remember, I feel like Los Angeles really appreciates these motherf—ing bars.”

It sounds menial, but it’s refreshing to hear an elite-skilled, high-visible rapper talk about prioritizing bars unapologetically. For Cole, it is something that has worked for him time and time again. His latest album, The Off-Season, earned him a sixth consecutive number one album on the Billboard 200 charts. Cole is one of the handful of rappers that can turn their advanced skillset into commercial and cultural success and credibility.
