Eminem Opens ‘Mom’s Spaghetti’ Restaurant in Detroit

Eminem is about to turn a hot line into, potentially, a hot restaurant. Wednesday, the Detroit rapper opened “Mom’s Spaghetti” and was welcomed with open arms by the community, including quite a few fans. If the name sounds familiar to you, it is not because it’s the haute comfort food of Detroit cuisine, but it comes from the line in “Lose Yourself”, from the 8 Mile Soundtrack, in which Em raps, “It’s vomit on his sweater already, Mom’s spaghetti.” Despite that gratifying memento, the excitement for this eatery has been building up for the longest time now. According to the Detroit Free News, MS started out as a pop-up shop at the famous Shelter, where he used to battle rap, which was also depicted in the film. He also opened it last year to feed hospital workers taking care of COVID patients.

The opening of the restaurant was as eventful as expected. Huffington Post Senior Page Editor – and Detroit native – Phillip Lewis was present at the event, tweeting the whole ordeal and caught some interesting tidbits, including Eminem himself showing up to serve the first 10 customers.

Other details of the food spot include the menu which features spaghetti entrees with meatballs and without, but also a s’ghetti sandwich which is spaghetti laid between some garlic toast. On top of the restaurant, there is a store known as “The Trailor”, in which fans – or “stans” as they might be referred – can visit and purchase items.

This is a very cool idea for Eminem to get on board with. He has a brand that can be translated into a fun way but still remain true to him. A few rappers have mastered this skill lately, and ironically, it’s being panned out in the food business. For example, Saweetie has the McDonald’s meal where you can “remix” a Big Mac but she also recently announced a partnership with Hidden Valley Ranch to create a line of Crocs shoes. In this case, the “mom’s spaghetti” line has been one of the more memorable bars in hip hop history. It’s only right that Em takes that and makes it into something that fans of all ages can enjoy. If you plan on visiting Detroit anytime soon, let this commercial get you excited and convinced to eat at the restaurant while you’re there.
